(영어 구동사) Go 는 그냥 '가다'가 아니야

Go 역시 다른 단어와 합쳐 구동사가 되어 많은 표현들을 할 수 있다.

 

-Go on
계속하다.
Time goes on.

-Go out
외출하다, 사귀다.
I'm going out for dinner with my friends tonight.

-Go over
검토하다.
Let’s go over the seminar.

-Go for
선택하다.
I think I will put on the blue dress tonight.

-Go away
떠나다.
Could you please go away for a minute please?

-Go through
조사하다.
I have to go through a lot of works.

-Go along
동의하다.
We will go along with your plan.

-Go off
자리를 뜨다, 발사되다, (경보기, 알람 등이) 울리다.
She went off to go for a walk.
The gun went off by accident.
The alarm went off at 3pm.

-Go up
올라가다.
Prices will go up on the peak season.

-Go down
내려가다.
The sun goes down at night.

-Go for a walk
산책하다.
Let's go for a walk in the park.

-Go ahead
계속하다.
You can go ahead with your presentation.

-Go off the deep end
극단적으로 행동하다.
He went off the deep end after breaking up with his girlfriend.

-Go back and forth
갈팡질팡하다.
She’s been going back and forth about the problem.

 

 

Go 라는 단어의 느낌은 보통 다들 잘 알기 때문에, 위 구동사들은 굳이 외우지 않았거나 처음 보는 상황이라고 해도 Go 의 느낌이 쉬우니까 의미를 추론하기가 쉽다. 앞서 소개했던 Look, Pull 등은 얼핏 그냥 보기만 해선 이게 왜 이런 뜻이 되는거야? 싶은 표현도 있을테지만 Go 구동사들은 그만큼 쉬우니 공부하기 수월할 것이다.
