(영어 구동사) Look을 활용하는 다양한 표현들

Look 하나의 동사로 수 많은 표현들을 할 수 있다.

-Look at
~을 보다.
Look at this beautiful plating! Did you really cook it?

-Look after
~을 보살피다.
My sister can look after my kids while I'm away.

-Look for
~을 찾다.
If I was you, I would look for another job.

-Looking forward to
~을 즐거운 마음으로 기대하다로 사용하는데, 긍정적인 이미지의 표현이기에 Hope와 비슷한 느낌이다.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.
주의할 점은 to 이후에 웬지 to 부정사가 올 것 같지만 아니란 것이다.

-Look into
조사하다, 고려하다.
The company is looking into the cause of the huge loss they made last year.
They are looking into opening a new branch in Bangkok.

-Look out
주의하다.
Look out for the big dog. She has bitten a person before.

-Look over
~을 살펴보다. 점검하다.
Please look over the report before submitting.

-Look up
정보를 찾다, 위를 보다, 개선되다.
I'm going to look up a new recipe on the Japanese cuisine book.
Look up. We can see full Moon today.
Finally the company is going to look up.

-Look down on
~을 얕잡아보다, 멸시하다.
Don't look down on anyone even though you are rich.

-Look through
~을 훑어보다.
I just looked through the report quickly before the meeting.


이 표현들을 굳이 달달 외울 필요는 없다. Look과 뒤에 딸린 단어의 느낌을 알면 어떤 뜻으로 쓰이고 있는지 자연스레 알 수 있다. 위 표현들을 Look through 하고 이해했다면 말이다.
